Romans
Paul’s letter to the Romans is a masterpiece in Christian doctrine and addresses the most important question anyone can ask: How does God save unrighteous, sinful people to eternal salvation? The answer isn’t complex: by faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ sacrificial death for all our sins for all time has done everything required for our salvation. Paul writes that pleasing God and inheriting salvation is not about being good enough, doing enough good, or practicing the right religion, it is about faith in Jesus. This simple truth lifted Martin Luther’s burden of guilt of failing to please God through his own efforts and sparked a transformation in the church.
